SYNOPSIS:
The task I am undertaking for my final project will be to produce an audio accompaniment for a slide show that a friend of mine (Tom [Cahill]) is putting together. The presentation intends to serve as an account of Tom's travels around the world during his year abroad in 1998/99. The audio component to this presentation will include various musical pieces reminiscent of his time abroad, mixed with sound effects and a spoken word narrative. The piece should be timed accurately, so as to coincide with the images and themes as they come up on the screen. The presentation will take place this coming weekend at the Trend in Traill college.
BACKGROUND:
To create the piece, we must compile the slide show presentation and determine its timing based on the various themes (most likely by country). We will then pick the most appropriate musical pieces for each section, and the appropriate areas for the inclusion of sound effects or narratives. Once the basic outline of the piece has been determined, we may begin in the studio to record the various sound parts into WAV files.
Tom and I will provide most of the music, and Tom will perform the narratives. Sound effects will be compiled from various sources, not excluding Trent radio's archives. Using the 'wonders of Cool Edit Pro' I will proceed to spend hours on end in studio B getting the mix just right!
INTENT:
I hope to provide an aesthetically pleasing audio accompaniment for Tom's slide show. One that artistically communicates, both musically and verbally, the experience Tom had (and that I shared in part when he was in Ghana) last year.
This project will contribute to my development as an artist to the extent that it provides me the opportunity to collaborate with an acting client throughout the artistic process. Taking into account the client's needs towards the sonic materialization of his ultimate vision (what's that all about?) Anyway, besides all that... it will also allow me more experience working with Cool Edit Pro, and the further development of my recording and mixing techniques.
The final product should be burned onto compact disc, to be played on the stereo system at the Trend. The slide presentation will take place on this coming Sunday [26 March 2000] at 1pm at the Trend, CPTC. Family and friends are invited, and so are you. Hope to see you there!
