seep.
seep is minimal, ambient, industrial and experimental. tones, drones, buzzes, hums; the sounds of machines surround us completely, every moment of our lives for most of us. these 'flatline' sounds that we spend most of our time trying to ignore (with varying degrees of success) are not simple tones - they are infinitely intricate. at any given time there are a million symphonies playing at once, and all you have to do to hear them is listen. seep tries to capture and explore sound that everyone else tries to ignore. so, like your fridge, computer, lights, fans, engines, electricity, cities, if you try to ignore it, you will not hear it, or at most hear it as noise. if you actively listen, though, you will hear the depth and breadth of the project.
seep is without rhythm, without time and key signatures, without bars and measures, without melodies and harmonies. it is music stripped down to its simplest - it is just tone. in its simplicity, however, it shows more acutely than any other music how we create our reality as we live it - if you are listening actively you will hear rhythms, melodies, harmonies and more. as you listen, it will be something different depending on where you are in the room, if you are moving or stationary, if you are alone or with someone - the music will change depending on your thoughts and moods.
the treatment.
seep will be a finished audio cd, hopefully with some type of packaging. it will consist of either one or two tracks, the total length being somewhere in the area of thirty minutes (these details are subject to change as the project progresses). it will be created using a flourescent light fixture, an electromagnetic microphone and a simple effects unit - all auditory events will be recorded 'live' and mixed using a digital multi-track programme, then burned onto cd. there will be no computer manipulation of the sounds.
