Suppemix2
My basic idea behind this piece was to do a parody of German industrial-metal music, such as Ramstein, by making an advertisment for a product that isn't usually associated with German industrial-metal music. I chose to use "Campbell's Soup" as my product because it is a product that is generally seen as being 'O.K.' and also because it is a product that also tends to be thought of as a 'white' product, because of the way it has been advertised, which makes it go along with the 'white supremecist' undertones that are often associated with industrial-metal music.
In the recording and mixing process, I used several techniques to achieve the sound I wanted. When I was actually recording the piece, I recorded the guitar and the vocals on separate recordings because I wanted to be able to mix and sweeten the vocals separately from the guitars. I arranged the vocals and guitar tracks in the multi-tracker section of Cool Edit Pro by using the splice tool.
With the splice tool, I was able to highlight specific sections of the voice sample and move them in relation to the guitar track, making the words coincide with specific sections of the guitar track. Once this was finished I altered the volume level of the guitar so that it was more quiet when the voice sample started and I also altered the voice sample so that it comes from the left speaker or right speaker, making it seem like there is more than one person speaking to the listener.
The sound effects were added using the same splicing technique as the voice sample, except that they came from pre-existing samples that were already on the computer.
